Ayutthaya trip Thai Buddha Thai tour

Ayutthaya day tour, Ayutthaya tour, Ayutthaya tours, Thai Buddha, Thailand must see,
Ayutthaya Trip, Ayutthaya river cruise, day trips from Bangkok.

- A typical Ayutthaya Trip starts in Bangkok at the Hua Lamphong train station.

Forget all other options since you will just get stuck in Bangkok traffic and spend half of your time there. Hop on the train to the north and have a interesting view into the rural live in Thailand beyond the outskirts of Bangkok. According to the season there are farmers planting rice, maybe harvesting, water buffaloes with huge headgear laze around and kids are playing in the ponds. The trip Bangkok Ayutthaya by train takes only about 90 minutes and Ayutthaya train station is almost beside the river channel around the island with the old town.

Outside the train station are several tuk-tuk waiting. If you are only one or two ignore them since they will try to cheat you anyway and claiming commission from any place they bring you, which finally you have to pay. The best is cross the road and there are the “motocyc” taxi easily fitting two pax, they bring you anywhere within the old town and new town for around up to Baht 50,-.

Since you probably are first time in the city the best is before you take a ride walk to the nearby Ayudhya Riverside Hotel and ask for a map they have a very good and simple map. If you are hungry now or later use their floating restaurant with a splendid view over the river and the river traffic. An alternative would be to tell the motorbike guy to bring you to the Tourist Information Center.

To get a right orientation do an Ayutthaya cruise as a starter, the long tail boats are waiting at different locations. The best is tell the motorbike guy to get you to Chantharakasem National Museum, which is only about 5

minutes ride, now tour this small museum. The place give a good insight into the living of royalty at that time and plenty of items are on display including old Buddha artifacts, old weapons and in the center of the place is a watchtower with a excellent view over the area, the river and the channels, the historical park show more temples and artifacts than the historical Park Sukhothai.

After leaving this small Ayutthaya museum

Ayutthaya temples at Wat Phra Si Sanphet 1448 A.D. is located in the Royal Palace built during the reign of King Trailok. The temple enshrined a important Buddha sculpture called Phra Sisanphet. The temple was used for royal ceremonies and storing royal relicts.

just across the street is a pier with plenty of longtail boats waiting to take you on a

around the island. It costs around Baht 600,- for about one hour. That’s probably the best starter, don’t use the bigger boats (right picture) mainly used by the Ayutthaya tours companies since they really only dash through the water with high speed leaving you no time to make some pictures since its very shaky with this speed.

To give you an idea what you will see browse the Ayutthaya photos below they are from that cruise. After you did the river cruise take again a bike taxi to one of the great Ayutthaya temples, that's Wat Phra Si Sanphet, a very impressive temple ground with 3 chedi still standing and some Buddha statues plus newer Wat construction with a huge golden Buddha inside. People are continuously glue gold leaves onto smaller statues. Ayutthaya temples, Wat Phra Si Sanphet is part of the Ayutthaya historical park and a real “Thailand must see”.

Closely is Wat Mahathat with the incredible Buddha head almost swallowed by a huge tree, its somehow similar to the nature swallowing parts of the temples at Angkor. Both Wats and most other Ayutthaya

temples have been destroyed by the Burmese army when they sacked Ayutthaya in 1756.

- Unfortunately they did a lot of damage to the old Ayutthaya temples

and most are only exotic ruins now. But there is a way out to get a more or less clear picture and this is by visiting the ancient palace in the area of Wat Worapoh and Wat Worachettharam, probably the most visual striking is panorama is Wat Lokayasutharam with the huge reclining Thai Buddah

Wat Lokayasutharam and the other temples around are totally intact and have somehow similar layouts and an additional attraction, a 37 meters long and 8 meters high reclining Buddha sculpture called Phre Bhuddhasaiyart. Constructed with bricks in the style of the middle Ayutthaya period.

- Wat Yai Chai Mongkol from 1357 A.D.

Wat Yai Chai Mongkol is at the south east. The huge and tall chedi is a landmark visible already from a further distance it was built under King U-Thong in 1357 for group of monks who returned from Ceylon, today Sri Lanka, after studying there.
